A few users have asked that we add an index of companies listed in the Companies on Jobmatchbox section. Your wish has been granted, check it out here.

You may notice that the list is not comprehensive and that it also heavily emphasizes the Washington, DC Internet and Technology Startup community. This is by design.

You may also notice that company profiles now include a link to Employees on Linkedin.

As we find the time, and as we bring on summer interns, we will be adding in profiles for companies who share their jobs here on Jobmatchbox. We will also be adding additional features that will enhance the user experience. We value user input so please let us know what you would like to see.

In developing the Jobmatchbox and Companies on Jobmatchbox we have kept our focus on providing complimentary resources to those already in existence. We do not want to re-create the wheel or the social network because there are plenty of fantastic teams out there who have already accomplished this. However, we are always looking for opportunities to improve upon what we offer to anyone who uses our site. If you have a product or service that you believe is complimentary to ours then please do not hesitate to let us know. You can send us a note here: email@jobmatchbox.com.

We received lots of positive feedback on the event from our panelists, hosts and audience. There were quite a few questions posed to the panel toward the end. One of them was “I know I want to start my own business, but I just don’t know what it should be. Any ideas?” Victor Prince, one of our panelists, posted a detailed answer to this question over on his blog that is worth checking out. If you have any additional questions or comments feel free to share them here, and we’ll try to answer them.

Here are the photos that we took.

Update:

Another one of our panelists, Keith Casey, contributed this blog post titled ‘Managing Technology in a Startup’. He makes some good points about technical considerations for startup founders.

A former colleague called me earlier today and asked if I could create a widget for him that provides Social Media Jobs for his blog. I did, and now I’m sharing that with my readers who might also be interested in having social media jobs appear on their page. A word of caution: there are no jobs on the widget yet - these will start to appear as companies start using the new “Social Media” jobs category when they post jobs.

The widget can be customized to match the color scheme of your blog or website. Follow this link to get the widget now. Adding the widget just requires that you know how to copy and paste a few lines of code into your blog sidebar or website. If you have questions please feel free to ask: email@jobmatchbox.com.

Our second running of Social Matchbox DC was well received and from everyone’s feedback it is going to happen again soon. Around 150 people turned out, enjoyed Pizza, sodas, networking, startup company presentations, and our trial run of a resume clinic. Thanks to all of our volunteers, Bloggers and Twitter friends who made the event possible. We plan to post video clips of individual company presentations in the companies section here over the next few weeks so stay tuned.

Here is a link to some photos from last night’s event that I took, here are some photos that Shashi took, and here are some photos that Nahum took. If you have any addition photos please send them to email@jobmatchbox.com and we will share the link here.

Here are a few quotes from attendees. If you were there we would love to hear from you too.

“Definitely a landmark event. People looking to mix, mingle and network with some of the bright, young Web 2.0 minds should be at each of these events. It was remarkably different from your typical ‘networking’ event. Very interactive. I’ll be there next time.”

Peter Radloff, Senior Technical Recruiter, comScore, Inc.

“(Social Matchbox was) such an upbeat networking event! I found it to be a very inventive way of meeting and connecting to the right people! I met several people who would be good for both our Siteworx and Zadby jobs and even re-connected with several people I used to work from years ago. I got several e-mails today from the meeting last night and I am hoping to bring some people in for interviews. Thank you also for letting me sit in on the resume writing critique, I was able to help several people. I love being able to help people like that! Great event! Invite me to the next!”

Gail Glassmoyer, Senior Recruiting Manager, Siteworx, Inc.

“It was a great event – lots of new faces in the crowd and of course quite a few familiar ones.

The list of presenting companies was pretty impressive and honestly eye opening since a good part of the startup community was well represented at the event.

…it was nice to be in a room filled with entrepreneurs and tech guys and gals.

It’s events like Social Matchbox DC that will keep our community growing quickly and bring the right people together.”

Ann Bernard, CEO, WhyGoSolo

“…it was a good one. Robert and his team at Jobmatchbox did an outstanding job of gathering a great mix of presenters, job seekers, socializers, etc.

It took place down at Teqcorner in the Tysons Area. A good venue compared to some we find ourselves at.

The companies presenting got a short time to show their wares to the crowd and there was plenty of time for good ol’fashion networking. I was fortunate to meet another bunch of people that have become Twitter followers with me recently.”

Jimmy Gardner, Blogger / Engineer, Lockheed Martin

Welcome back to Jobmatchbox. You will notice some big changes that were made over the weekend. These include the following areas: navigation, design, features, feed management, and page loading performance enhancements. A brand new company directory with submission form has been added that replaces the old category for featured companies. This new section will be built around companies that have posted their jobs on the site and companies that we have written about. We really hope that by combining company profiles and jobs the site will become more useful to job seekers who are looking for more than a job description in their search for their next place to work. Featured jobs will be handled the same way that they were before - all jobs submitted using the Add Jobs Form will be automatically considered. It is our hope that you will enjoy the new experience and continue to send us your jobs, feedback and details on what is happening with your organization.

One last thing. In our effort to overhaul the site we had some technical difficulty restoring past blog entries. We will be working to restore these in the coming weeks. If this turns out to be a tall order then we may just create content sections that cover much of the same ground, but provide a fresh perspective and additional detail. There is no question that it is in our best interest to restore these pages. We do apologize for this being missing from the new site.
