You Know You Are Wrong When

By Bob | Sep 18, 2008

In business and in life, you know you are wrong sometimes but you keep doing whatever it is that you were doing and try to pretend that it isn’t the case.  Everyone is guilty of this now and then, but there are times when there is just no good reason to do so outside of bad habits.  This applies in simple situations like a job interview where you are asked a question and you don’t know the answer.  BS will not get you out of a question - it is much better to admit that you don’t know the answer or how to answer the question than to try to blow hot air.  Interviewers are not going to give you points for how good a BS’er you are.  The same applies to business relations.  If you are going into a business relationship for A then you should state your reason, not state a completely false reason.  Even worse than lying in business is trying to pretend that you didn’t once the cards are on the table.  Sure, you might lose a few cool points in the process but you win a few character points.  There is no benefit to doing something shady.  It doesn’t take a belief in Karma to justify being up front and open with the people you interact with in business and in life, just a sense for how others will look at you when your interactions and dealings have long since passed.
